I spent ten wonderful days in Shimla in December teaching at Swaran Public School. I was teaching the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th class about Finland, my home country, and mainly just getting the children to discuss in English. They kept asking me questions and memorized things incredibly well and seemed eager to learn new things.
Before stepping into the first classroom on my first day I have to admit being a bit nervous because I had no previous experience of standing in front of a class by myself but it turned out that I had worried for no reason. The lovely children and the great atmosphere made my job really easy and pleasant and when my time at Swaran Public School was coming to an end I knew I was going to miss it a lot. The school seemed to be well organized and the children were very well-behaved and showed great motivation. The classes were also quite small which I thought was a great thing. On the last day the children sang the National Anthem of Finland, Maamme Laulu, on the schoolyard and they had also learned to use many phrases in Finnish in class.
I want to thank everyone at Swaran Public School for giving me a great time - I miss all the classes that I was teaching. And last but not least, a huge thanks to Seema and Anoop Mehta for being an absolutely wonderful host family and making me feel at home at all times! I wish I could come back one day.
